Digital Data Solution “Shramshakti” for Migrant Workers by Ministry of Tribal Affairs

According to the Press Information Bureau, on 22 January 2021, the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Shri Arjun Munda launched “ShramShakti” a National Migration Support Portal through video conference meeting at a programme held at Panjim, Goa today. The objective behind the Migration portal is about getting effective help in the smooth formulation of state and national level programs for migrant workers.

The Union Minister has also launched a tribal migration cell, a tribal museum at Goa and “ShramSaathi”, a training manual for migrant workers.The Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant also launched a dedicated Migration cell in Goa to facilitate and support migrants who come from different States to Goa.

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Arjun Munda, Minister of State Ms.Renuka Singh Saruta Secretary, MoTA Shri Deepak Khandekar along with Chief Minister of Goa Dr Pramod Ji Sawant, Tribal Welfare Minister Shri. Govind Ji Gaude and Labour& Employment Minister Smt. Jennifer Monserrate virtually joined the programme through Video Conference.

Shri Arjun Munda spoke to the occasion that due to the lack of real time data of migrants it was a great challenge for state and national governments in formulating effective strategies and policy decisions for welfare of migrant workers at both source and destination states.

The honourable minister further added that migrants all over the country had faced a tremendous audacity after lockdown due to corona Pandemic.The migration of tribal population is distress-driven and the migrants are exposed to difficult and unsafe conditions. Sometimes they face trafficking or wages harassment issues including many occupational hazards at the workplace.”

He lauded the Shram Shakti,a National Migration Support Portal and said that we will have the tribal migration repository and would be able to successfully address the data gap and subsequently empower poor migrant workers. It would be of great help to the government in linking the migrant population with existing Welfare Scheme- under Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

The various data that will be recorded via Shram Shakti include demographic profile, livelihood options, skill mapping and migration pattern.

The tribal training module- ShramSaathi would enable the process of livelihood migration is safe and productive for tribal migrant workers .It may be noted that tribal migrants are generally unaware about their rights and entitlements and the tribal training module- ShramSaathi would shows the ways to access services and social security in source and destination areas,” Shri Munda said.

Minister further stated that after training via this module, tribal migrant workers will be able to demand and access services, rights and entitlements related to livelihood and social security at their village before migration, as well after migration at destination towns and cities.
